Firms Sued For R4.75m

Three companies involved in a film production this year are being sued for R 4.75 million in damages in the Western Cape High Court by a rigger who was shocked on set while trying to assemble a metal frame for photographic equipment.

Quevin Diakazebi,  originally of  Brazzaville in the  Republic of  Congo,  claims in court  papers that, as a result of  his  injuries, he suffers  from  seizures, blackouts, vertigo,  headaches and  short term  memory  difficulties.

He also suffered burns to two toes.

He added that he was unable to cope with the physical demands of the job.

The defendants are Film Afrika Pirates, Cape Town Film Studios and Mathlander Plant Hire. Diakazebi said he was shocked as a result of their negligence – an allegation they denied.

However, Cape Film Studios said Diakazebi only had himself to blame, saying he did not take into account overhead power lines.
