Please note that the TERS scheme website has now been further updated.

The new functions include the following:

1. An option to generate a UIF number if one is not available.

This previously represented an obstacle to some of the applications made on behalf of sole proprietors or smaller companies and Close Corporations. The reference required by the Department for the lodgement of the applications in terms of the scheme is not the same as the ordinary UIF number which is used. To obtain the same proved to be difficult. This new feature allows us to generate a number so that the claims can be submitted quickly.

2. Employers of more than ten employees.

In terms of the Memorandum of Agreement, those employers who employ more than ten employees provide certain undertakings to the Department of Labour. These include payment of the funds received for employees within 2 days and a report back to the Department. However, without a breakdown as to how the payment was calculated it has been difficult for those employers to make payment in turn to the employees as there is a risk that the payment which they make does not accord with

the funds provided and the calculations made by the scheme. The new function now includes access to the approval/rejection letter as well as a payment breakdown.

Our further reports will follow as more updates or innovations are included in the scheme application process.
